Prehistoric Monsters Revealed
Prehistoric Monsters Revealed will air this Monday night (7/28, 9pm) and again Tuesday morning (7/29, 1am) on the History Channel and the History Channel HD. I was filmed several times at one of our fossil sites and at this beach, but it is highly unlikely that I'll make it through the final cuts. Watch anyway - hopefully it will be good.

No Birthday Cake Hugh???!!!!
FYI....Jason specifically asked me to NOT make a "regular" cake this year for his birthday and instead requested a dessert of Rice-Crispie Treats with Reece's Pieces on top. I DID make him this request and I took him out for ice-cream too!!!
So, don't anyone feel sorry for him....but....since he is so cute and spoiled....I'm sure I'll break down and make him a cake since he obviously wishes he had one!!!!

Birthday and Pickin' Fruit
Well, I made it through my birthday. Pretty uneventful, and even though Sarah did a lot for me, there still seems to be no cake in sight . . . Oh well . . .
We went to Ann and Rich's on Friday night for a lobster dinner with them and Sarah's mom. It was fun and low-key.
Saturday I put together baby stuff an worried about where everything is going to go, and then that evening we went out to dinner with her mom. It just so happened that the restaurant I picked in Paoli was right beside a kitchen store. We spent some time in there because they had a lot of nice things. I had been thinking about borrowing Ann's food mill again this fall to make applesauce, and I've looked for those in stores but never found them - I was beginning to think I'd only find one in an antique store. But, they had one, so I was excited about that. Dinner was at Le Saigon, a French-influenced Vietnamese place that was very good and very reasonably priced. I can't wait to go back. We finished the evening with the requisite stop at Handel's for some awesome ice cream. Sarah's mom got me an awesome belt buckle. I actually had this one a couple years ago and I love it, but part of it broke and I haven't been able to find another since. I'll post a picture when I can.
Today (Sunday) Sarah cooked me a nice breakfast of french toast. After that, Sarah, Lincoln, and I went to the 250 acre pick-your-own orchard that we love. It was hotter than hell, but we picked 58 lbs of fruit, including tons of early-season Lodi apples, which are great for applesauce, lots of peaches, some apricots, and a good amount of plums and a quart of blueberries. Everything is delicious. The only thing they had in season that we didn't pick were blackberries - we figured 58 lbs was enough. We really love that place. If we lived closer I'd get a second job there - I really want to learn about growing all those fruits.
Lincoln and I took Sarah on a walk down to Valley Forge Creek here in Chesterbrook to see something Lincoln and I found last night. There is a wide part of the creek where a tons of bats seem to congregate at dusk to catch bugs. There were none at 8:30 when we got there, and by 8:45 there must have been 30. It was pretty awesome. They were bigger and lighter in color than ones I'm used to, and they would fly REALLY close to us before veering off.
All in all, it was a pretty good weekend, even though I still don't have a cake.

SEC Media Days start this week, and that is generally considered the unofficial start of football season - FINALLY! Preseason practice begins only a couple weeks after media days.

Catching Up - Baby Shower
Sarah had another baby shower on Saturday afternoon at her aunt Ann's house. Almost all of her friends were there (too bad Jeanette couldn't be here), including Marti, who drove 6 hours from Virginia with a screaming baby. She apparently had a great time, and we got a ton of baby loot. I have no idea where all of this crap is going to go in our house. Seriously, how much stuff can 1 baby need. If baby's didn't need it 1000, 100, or even 10 years ago, neither does ours. Dinosaur clothes, however, are a necessity. I'll add pictures when I get them from Sarah.
The shower was FAR too girly for me. Jason Poole and I went to French Creek Outfitters to shoot stuff with our bows.
Marti stayed the night with us, but left early the next morning. Her new baby (Clayton) is really cute and a good baby. It was a great visit, but way too short. The same could be said of mom's visit, since I had to get her to the airport Sunday morning at 7-freakin-30 in the morning. We were pretty exhausted from the weekend so took it easy for most of the rest of the day. Actually, Sarah, her mom, and I went to our old neighbor Bob's house for dinner, and had a great time. He told us to tell you (Ed and Jeanette) hello for him.

Catching Up - Steinway
We have lots to catch up on. After a significant delay, mom finally arrived in Philly late Wednesday night (7/9/08). The next morning she and I went to the Steinway & Sons factory in Long Island City (Queens), NY.
Some guy there gave us a personal tour, beginning in the refurbishment building, and then to the new piano assembly building. He introduced us to many of the workers, who all seem to be highly skilled and talented, and are really master craftsmen. Mom loved it, and even though I couldn't care less about pianos, it was interesting to see the process, learn about the materials, and the hear about the history. The guy that gave us the tour was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Of course, the highlight for mom was to see her Steinway in the process of being refurbished. The guy told us it was built in 1911-1912 in the Hamburg, Germany factory.
